Stay on Track During the Holiday Season
It seems like everywhere you go this time of year, the sights, the sounds and of course the flavors of the holidays are unavoidable. One of my favorite things about the holiday season are the flavors. The downside is that these treats can make staying on track with a healthy lifestyle a little hard.
My biggest personal rule is not to deprive myself of anything, and that includes the plethora of holiday treats. Moderation is the key, as with everything. There is nothing wrong with eating a piece of pie, eating a frosted sugar cookie, or gingerbread man, or drinking a mug of hot chocolate. Just try not to have it all, and stop yourself at one.
Along with allowing myself these treats, I also try to plan healthy options for the rest of the time. If I know I am going to have these treats afterward; I go for a low key meal, a simply seasoned chicken breast with steamed veggies is always an easy option.
Lastly, try to maintain your gym routine, treat it as plans you cannot cancel. Staying active will help you keep up your energy levels up for shopping and holiday parties, as well as help, keep up with the extra calorie intake. Help get a few extra steps in by parking near the back of the lot, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
