Your local summer camps are not the only action in soccer this month. We have been enjoying the heat of summer soccer and international play, with the Copa América and the Euro Cup in full swing. Fans of the world's favorite sport (soccer) are enjoying the competition, and with all the action going on, there's always a game to catch. Each of these tournaments features international play with the world’s best players battling it out for international glory.
For fans here in the States it is an extra big deal, as the USA is hosting this year. This year’s tournament features 16 teams (and countless big name players) from North and South America, with one taking home one of the greatest prizes in the game. The United States has advanced to the quarter finals round and plays Ecuador on Thursday, June 16th at 8:30 pm CST. A fact worth knowing, powerhouse Brazil was knocked out of the tournament during group play for the first time in 30 years with a loss to Peru on a controversial goal. Copa América final is on Sunday, June 26th at 7:00 pm CST. P.S. This year the tournament turns 100!
The America's aren't the only ones in the international soccer spirit right now, Europe is in the midst of its continental championship too. France is playing host this year to Euro 2016, Europe's largest international tournament. Group play started on Sunday, June 12th. The Euro 2016 final takes place on Sunday, July 10th at 2:00 pm CST.
Winners of each cup get to go home with serious bragging rights. Watching the action go down promises to be exciting. Both tournaments will wrap up before the start of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
