Get Ready For National Bike Week
National Bike Week is next week, and it is the perfect time to get active! Do you remember when you were a kid, and nothing made you happier than riding your bike with the neighborhood kids ALL day?
When I was a kid, there was a great little Italian Beef restaurant I used to ride to with my family on the weekends. I remember the way there was always a blast because the restaurant was at the bottom of a large hill, that was terrifying but always fun to ride down. Besides that, I would spend all day just riding around with the other kids in my neighborhood. We would play games and ride until we had to go home for lunch or dinner. Those days seemed to fly by, and I slept like a rock while my body recovered to do it all again the next day.
Admittedly now it has been years since I have been on a bike that wasn't of the stationary variety in a spin class setting. Somewhere along the line, I lost the magic riding bikes used to bring to my life. Now I know it is no longer realistic to spend all day every day riding bikes with my friends. There is work to be done.
Bike week is a splendid time to try to bring at least some of that magic back. Get out the old bike and ride it to work, or explore your neighborhood from the view of the seat. If you do not have a bike anymore, spin class is still pretty magical with the loud music and the inspiring instructors. On top of being some good old fashioned fun, riding a bike has some great health benefits too. It is an excellent way to raise your heart rate and keep those joints in motion. Whatever you can get your hands on traditional or stationary; get out there, let loose and enjoy the ride.
