3 Can't Miss Stories Out of Rio 2016 So Far

We are a few days into the 2016 summer Olympics, and there has already been a lot to see. Here are three of the top stories so far:

1. Michael Phelps

Michael has already added to his gold medal collection and inspired a trending internet meme as well. Off to a good strong start in his 5th Olympics, Michael and team USA brought home the gold in the Men's 4X100m freestyle relay on Sunday.

On Monday night, Michael evil-eyed his competition while preparing for the Men's 200m butterfly semifinals. He eyed Chad le Clos as he danced to warm up for the same event. Chad narrowly beat Michael in the finals of the same event in London 2012, leaving Michael to take home the silver. Stay tuned for the finals tonight (Tuesday, August, 9th) to see who will take the gold this year. *Update Phelps won the gold in this event, his 20th.

2. Annemiek van Vleuten

Annemiek is a cyclist from the Netherlands who was injured in a shocking accident while competing in Rio on Sunday. She had been in the lead when she lost control of her bike, hit the curb and flipped over her handlebars. After the crash Annemiek remained unconscious, she did regain consciousness before being taken to the hospital. She had a concussion as well as three spinal fractures.

The winner of the race ended up being Annemiek's teammate Anna van der Breggen, who tearfully received the gold medal.

3. Samir Ait Said

The world held their breath when they heard the audible crack, and gasped when they saw the broken leg. French gymnast Samir Ait Said broke both his tibia and fibula during his vault landing on Friday. This heartbreaking injury will remove Samir from the 2016 games, though he has said he plans on returning for 2020.
